GREENGUARD Gold Certificate for Neopor® now also in Europe

Insulating with Neopor protects health – now also confirmed in Europe by GREENGUARD label certification. The raw material has already carried this labeling for healthy products for many years in the U.S.

People spend an average 90 % of their time in closed rooms, so indoor air quality is crucial for well-being. For example, poor indoor air exacerbates asthma and allergies, so it is important to ensure the use of low-emission products even in construction, allowing effective prevention of pollutants in indoor air from the start.

To make it easier for architects and developers to find low-emission materials, the GREENGUARD label indicates products that meet the strict emissions limits for Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). There are limits for over 360 VOCs. A ceiling for the total of all chemical emissions must also be observed.

Like all EPS insulation materials, Neopor® produces zero emissions and therefore meets the strictest European standards, such as A+ of the French VOC directive. This has been demonstrated by the renowned test laboratory Eurofins in Denmark. Representative samples for the European market reveal that, at a maximum of 58 μg/m3 after 28 days, the total of volatile organic compounds falls below the strictest European limit by over 70 %. The material also emits no formaldehyde.

Neopor® therefore meets not only the demanding criteria of the GREENGUARD certificate, but also the requirements of the Californian Department of Public Health Services. As a result, the raw material has been given the GREENGUARD Gold label, which means it may also be used in schools and health facilities accommodating children or elderly people, in addition to commercial buildings.

Manufacturers producing Neopor® insulation boards can also benefit from the certification of the raw material; by applying for an extended license from UL (Underwriter Laboratories), they can have their product labeled as protective of health for indoor spaces.
